CIN2 aims to be recognised as an international referent leading, supporting and coordinating research and development in nanoscience and nanotechnology in Catalonia and Spain.

Our objectives are:

 - To carry out fundamental and applied research in nanoscience as well as to explore potential applications of nanotechnology.
- To interface with the industrial environment for the use of our research results.
- To foster networking and the creation of alliances with entities and regions all over the world.
- To consolidate the collaboration with private companies, establishing agreements for the transfer of our knowledge and research results.
- To boost our research through the excellence and dedication by selecting the best researchers. 

Strategic networking actions

- CIN2 is part of the Barcelona Nanotechonlogy Cluster-Bellaterra. With the other centers forming the cluster, we share scientific services and create virtual platforms that increase the interdisciplinary of our research.
Besides, some additional goals of the cluster are:
a) To launch a business development initiative to foster investment in innovation involving companies, venture  capital, institutional investors and regional development initiatives.
b) To promote an education, training and professional programme, through the development of a master plan for education and information.
c) To introduce a strategy for building international co-operation.
d) To establish a center for the consolidation and dissemination of information.

- CIN2 will also establish special relationships with the synchrotron radiation facility, ALBA, which is being built in the UAB Campus. We plan to share researchers, scientific activities and, most of all establishing common research lines involving nanotechnology and synchrotron radiation. One of the goals of the collaboration will be to design a beam line where new and not routine experiments will be conceived.

- Also, we will work towards establishing close cooperation links with the recently established Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), in order to ensure that CIN2 researchers will benefit from the Supercomputing facilities and research environment provided by BSC.

- We plan to consolidate the collaboration with Technological Centers such as Leitat and Ascamm by developing common activities: research projects, PhD co-direction and new spin-off’s.
