Dr. Jordi Pascual is Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) since 1993, and Director of the Institut Català de Nanotecnologia, since 2005. Dr. Pascual received his Diploma in Physics from Universitat de Barcelona in 1972, the Ph.D. in Physics from the UAB in 1978, and the Thèse d'État in Physics from the Université de Montpellier in 1979. He came back to the UAB in 1978 and took in charge the creation of an experimental group on optical properties of solids in the Physics Department. Following his appointment as Professor of Applied Physics (chair) at the UAB, he open a new research line on semiconductor nanostructures and wide gap semiconductors, to investigate optical, structural, electronic and damage properties upon ion beam implantation. At present the research is moving to a new front, the investigation of physical properties of multiferroic systems.

He has a long expertise in the conductance of research projects and the direction of PhD thesis. He received the Narcís Monturiol Medal of the Catalan Government in 1997 and he was appointed as a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona in 2001.
